Well, new CD-Rom drive and games still not running.

I bought a new CD-Rom drive because some games like Farecry won't run on many CD-burners. First time I tried to play it worked fine, but everyother time after that it just freezes up on the initial Farcry logo. Not sure what the deal is here. 🙁 Any help would be greatly appreciated. I might have just gotten a bad cd-rom drive.

If you're using the IDE/ATAPI driver from the Nvidia 5.10 driver set, it's my guess that this might be your problem.

That driver gave me a great deal of trouble. That driver worked fine with my HD as master on IDE1 and NEC3500 as master on IDE2. When I attempted to install new DVDROM as slave on IDE2, my BIOS couldn't see the device. When I attempted other master/slave combinations, other problems appeared - at one point even my HD wasn't being seen by my BIOS.

My solution was to update the IDE/ATAPI driver to the standard MS IDE/ATAPI driver. Problems solved.

Hope this helps!

Thanks. I figured out I was just dumb and forgot to reset the jumper on my CD-burner to slave. (It had been my only one before). Once I did this it recognized everything and I can run anything.

I'm still confused as to how it worked the first time though, since I didn't change anything until now.. oh well.
