Most likely you're going to use a triphenylphosphine to complex with the 2,4-pentadione oxygen and that helps make either the enone or activate for nucleophilic attack alpha to the carbonyl.

I took 2nd semester organic THREE TIMES, and I STILL can't understand any of this.

(Of course, the fact that I can't understand any of this is probably why I had to take the course three times...)
