Now that I've finally figured out where my chip tops out and my new ram had a few days to burn in I decided to see what I could get out of it.

Tested two sticks of the HyperX PC3500 and this stuff is pure crap imo. Spd timings were 2 7 3 3 with a recomended Vdimm of 2.6v. I tested both sticks together and each seperately also. Neither one would even post at 2.5 7 3 3 (highest my board will go) @ DDR 425 and 2.7 Vdimm. That's where I gave up and decided just to send this crap back to outpost. You'd really think out of two sticks I could have got one that would run at rated speed at least.

Does anyone have any reason why I should rma this instead of just returning it outright? I mean, if it was one stick I could understand more but the fact that they're both crap makes me just want to give it back. I've heard plenty of people say great things about this ram but obviously I can't back that up. Is my experience just a big fluke or what? Very disapointing :(

Edit: The problem was mine, not the ram's. Jumped to conclusions too quickly. Read my last post.

Interesting............... I have hyperx 3500 in my 8RDA+ that is doing 215fsb synch right now, but there are some issues with many users. It appears that kingston says there is an issue with nforce2 boards. Here is what I found online:

"Thank you for contacting Kingston Technical Support. This Abit NF7-S board
uses Nvidia nForce2 SPP chipset, and from our testings done in lab, Hyper X may
not be compatible with nVidia nForce2 SPP chipset , when 2 pieces are installed.
One piece should work, 2 pieces will mostly likley fail. You may consider using
our regular parts that are compatible with this board: KVR266X64C25/256
(DDR266), KVR333X64C25/256(DDR333), and KVR400X64C25/256(DDR400).

Please let me know if I can be of further assist.

We are working closely with Kingston regarding this issue. So far, the problem seems to be a incompatible issue between the Hyper X and the newer stepping of the North Bridge. I can run ANY other PC3500 modules up to 217Mhz FSB =434Mhz DDR @ 2-3-3-6 without any problems on the NF7-S v2.0.

Kingston is working on this issue with NVIDIA right now and we are waiting for a fix from them.

AFAIK, Hyper X has the same issue with other motherboard manufactures as well."

Maybe there is an issue with your board as well.

Well, here's the part where I feel real dumb. I started running memtest a while after I made this thread just to see where I'd top out at. It would seem these sticks just need a lot of burn in and I just hadn't given them enough yet. The highest I've been able to run memtest now without erroring out is 440 @ 2 3 3 7. It did take 2.8v go get it there but nevertheless it's doing what it advertised it would at least. Anyway, hope I didn't give anyone a bad impression of kingston. I should have tested more before I jumped to any conclusions :(

On a side not I've developed another strange issue while I was running memtest. I might as well ask here before I go make another thread in motherboards. Anyway, now at this speed or any speed higher than at least 400 (lowest I tried) I can't get this thing to post after a restart from windows or any bios changes. If the system is off and you fire it up and let it do its thing it posts just fine. Anything else results in one long beep (I assume that's memory even though I can't find a list of beep codes) or just a blank screen. It did post normally once after a bios change but that's one time out of about 20. Anybody have any ideas what that could be? Also if I end up having to rma it will the fact that I removed the nb sink to lap it and apply some AS3 be a problem? Thanks for your help guys.

Antec 400W smart power. Running 1hdd, 1 optical, 5 80mm fans total, and a 9500np, these two sticks or ram and my 2.53 which is at 3.34 atm. More than enough power for that. Rails are at 3.31, 5.05, and 12.10 @ idle. The lowest the readings drop @ load is 3.23, 5.05, and 11.98. That's just the lowest they've dipped to though. Load readings usually stay within .03 of idle voltages. So power defenitly isn't a problem.

is there an option in your bios called: UPDATE ESCD = enabled ?

if so, make sure its enabled before leaving bios.

:)

Nope, I looked all through my bios and didn't find anything like that. The closest thing I found was under the advanced options-Pnp/Pci menu there was an menu for "resources controled by" with the options of "auto (escd)" or "manual". It was set to auto(escd).

Well I have had no issues with this board and what you are talking about...funny thing I had same issue with a past board (Epox 4BDA) and taking my ram past 426mhz ddr eventhough it ran fine at 442mhz ddr...the baord just had about a 50% chance of restarting....This could be fixed with a bios update so make sure you have the latest....That same ram is the ram I use today as well as the power supply so it pretty mucxh was isolated in my case to the mobo...
