Well isn't this cute...my computer boots (not reboots) on its own

I reformatted last night. Installed windows 2000, service pack 2. The latest via 4 in 1s, 14.20 nvidias, and the like. When I was getting ready to go to bed, I shut my computer off, went to the bathroom, and when I came back it was on. I figured I just had selected restart rather than shutdown, so I shut it down again and went to bed. When I woke up this morning it was on again, the last time I shut it off with the power button, so i know it didn't just reboot. WTF is going on?
thanks for any help

Ihad a computer like this... I want to say it was the powersupply that refused to stay off but it could also have been the mobo. I had to shutdown and then flip the psupply switch to keep it off.

Awww... that sounds cute 🙂 😉

Needs house training though..

I think it maybe a PSU or Mobo power issue I think..

It might be that when you click Shutdown it shuts down but something in the mobo or the like is sparking it up again for some perculiar reason..

I am sorry I can't help alot but it might be a mobo or PSU issue I guess..

Good luck mate,

Albert.

EDIT: DOH! Was beaten to it.. wish I spent less time typing it out.. But I guess it kind of confirms the PSU mobo argument..

Wouldnt have anything to do with the wacky windows 2000 power stuff would it?
Just seems like it is something I did wrong, or have not done, since it just started happening as soon as I reformatted.
To me, that rules out hardware problems/failures

Surges on your powerline can do this. Look for airconditioners, hot plates, freezers, washing machines, or any other kind of appliance on the same circuit.

maybe you should try sticking around a couple minutes to see if it realy shuts off when you shut it down 🙂
