Well I'm getting 512mb of RAM for Win98SE

Lets see if you guys are BSing about Win98 choking and dying or getting a performance boost...I know it will give a nice boost in WW 2 Online and Anarchy Online as both games require as much RAM as physically possible...now if only the RAMdisk I wanted was still available...
 
I'd b interested to see how your OS fares with it, cuz I'm still on Win98 and have stuck to 256MBs of RAM due to the numnerous rumours of probs it has with more RAM.
 
512MB will work fine. I have had no problem at all. Now I did try 768MB of RAM and had 1 or 2 problems.

512MB should be fine.

Shagga, did you try altering your vcache with that amount of ram??
 
I am running a dual boot 98SE/2K system, and have no problems with 512MB of RAM. In 98SE, I have added the ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1 line in System.ini/386Enh, (which forces the OS to use all available RAM before hitting the Swapfile) and set Virtual Memory to be handled by Windows. I never have had a swapfile started, and 98SE runs smooth as silk.

I've done them, but WW 2 OL uses 256mb of RAM I currently have AND 500mb more... its a frigging hog...

Exactly. 🙂 It should run much better...its a RAM hog but it's actual requirements are easy to meet.
 
Ooooooh I just remembered I got 2x 64mb sticks of PC133 Apacer ram laying here so I got 400mb of RAM until my Crucial 256m comes 🙂 🙂 now I hope all these sticks will work with each other...
 
I built my first system and had 256 meg for a long time but when I gave the system to my son for gaming I went ahead and filled the other two with 2 sticks of 128. He has been running just great at 512, Curious what would happen if we got 256 meg sticks to populate the DIMM for a grand total of 1 gig! The Abit BX6 ver2 mobo is a rock!
 
bacillus - I didn't alter it if I'm honest. What I perhaps meant to say was that I think one of my 128MB sticks of Crucial started failing that why I had problems. It's not really a Windows issue as working with 768MB seemed fine. I had no problems at all.

What I perhaps should of said was that I had 768MB RAM and had no real issues with stability. Now until I prove it is the RAM that is at fault I have to say Windows9x seemed fine.

If however I find that the RAM is not faulty, then I can only say that there were issues with Win9x and more than 512MB RAM.
