Saving for 3 years for something that will be outdated in 1 year seems odd to me, but to each his own I guess.

Well, hopefully someone explains to them about cleaning everything off (with say isopropyl alcohol and then letting dry thoroughly) and then seeing if it works. That certainly would suck though, especially if it was their first self-build.

He didn't go top shelf, so he likely got pretty good value for his money. Not only that, but maybe he's got other mouths to feed and so he has to save for a long time to be able to afford something fairly nice for himself. And then of course its not really outdated, as its not like he won't be able to play any games on a system like that over the next few years.

Thats really sucks. But why would anyone have an open container of conductive fluid anywhere near a new computer build?

I know the pain. Back in the early 80's I had a Can Am 250 motorcycle.
The two bolts that held the magneto in came loose and tore up the windings. I had to push it the 4 miles home.
I saved up and ordered the part which was hard to find. It finally came in and I rushed down to pick it up and then home to install it. I put it in and the bike fired right up. 30 seconds later, it died. In my haste to ride, I had forgotten to tighten the bolts all the way and the winding were all tore up again.
I sold it but learned a very good lesson. Alyways double check your work.

I'm almost always drinking a beer when I am rebuilding my computers...

Yeah, its not uncommon for me to have something to drink (often a can of pop) while working on a computer. Maybe you need a sippy cup, but I personally don't find it that difficult to keep from spilling it on anything.

Hey, you leave my sippy cups out of this! Guess I've just heard too many horror stories about someone spilling liquid on their computer to take the chance

True, and this thread is evidence of that. I certainly understand that if I did spill something on it and killed it then it would be my fault from my own stupidity, which I'm happy to accept and move on. Its kinda strange, I take good care of stuff but wouldn't be too bothered by something going wrong. Then again, I did at one point ruin a $400 video card by tinkering with it, so I've learned my lesson. I just make sure to be careful and know my own bounds.
