I pick up my car next friday -- it is expected to develop 600hp

For the time being, this is my daily driver

STI, Evo, Vette, GTO? I hope it's one of the latter for reliability's sake :)

Going to try to stick with the stock bottom end for the time being :p Once I add methanol/water injection I will have to go to a fully built block. Unfortunately Ill get the car back with more power left in it, but any more boost will just tear up the unsleeved block and cast components (and the notoriously weak bearings)

Meh, you're not going to get that from me. However, 600hp is at the VERY top end for those motors. I'm sure you'll be employing the services of a specialist company to do the work, so all the best!

Should be ok, hope you have a nice set of gauges.

It's not just the motor I would be worrying about your tranny as well, I would go PPG from the get go, IIRC the stock STI tranny is only really rated for 450lbs TQ.

Also your rear half axles, I would take a look at the Perrin subframe lockdown kit for the rear end just to tighten things up a bit.

Should be awesome though, congrats man, that thing is gonna be sick.

Jesus. That doesn't sound like a reliable setup, but I bet it will be hideously fun. I'd much rather have an LS2 that will do 600hp without even breathing hard. Of course, LS2 isn't commonly found in AWD clothing, so :p

The STI 6spd tranny is well known for being pretty much bullet proof. The two fastest Subarus in Canada (street legal) are both running an '07 STI 6spd (07 will allow a trap speed of 130mph before shifting out of 4th). For instance we have a wrx wagon with a full DSS stage 5 setup and slicks on all 4 running in the 10's with a stock 6spd tranny, he has well over 600hp.

I have a set of Defi gauges that Im not happy about having paid for -- they are so damn expensive, but they match stock perfectly and I couldnt be happier with them.

The real axles are definitely a weak link, I would rather not put in the subframe kit, I want that little bit of movement to cushion any severe launches. I have been looking at the DSS rear axle kit.

Got a new motor and heads priced out today too! Then I can run this setup to its full potential!

Engine internals are bone stock cast crap and stock bearings. We are taking precautions and not running it at full boost or with meth (or race fuel). The EGT probe is an inch outside of the head under cylinder 4 :p We are going to be careful not to exceed 1650deg. F on that one, but with the upgraded fuel rails cylinder 4 is no longer the last one to get fuel, so it isnt as much a problem as it was with the stock fuel system.

Well I hope you are wrong :p Just FYI, I wouldnt say that american V8s can do 600hp without breathing hard, I wouldnt want to run one that ragged without opening it up. Besides, where are you going to find a brand new stock short block for $1750 for those V8s

Dare I say its one of the best Subaru builders/tuners near within 5 hours of the border.

Well, I guess what I meant is that I've known plenty of people with modded 5.7s and 6.0s that push well north of 500hp without any reliability issues in the motor itself.

Still, if you don't push it real hard constantly I bet it will hold up decently.

Well the most important part of the longevity of any highly strung engine is the tune. I have absolute faith in my tuner, and we are keeping the EGTs low and the cylinder pressure in line with what a stock block can hold.

That won't be fun to drive IMO, big turbo like will lag like no other south of 4500rpm. My brother had a 450hp eclipse with some hybrid turbo and 26psi

Its definitely not a turbo designed for autocrossing in mind. The lag wont be quite as bad as that, and a set of equal length headers will also help to bring that down. If I had more money I would go twin scroll headers/uppipe and get the spool right down.

While full spool will certainly occur later than stock, you have to understand that while the stock turbo could spool to 20psi by 3500rpm, the new turbo, which might be able to spool to 10psi by then will probably still make more power. So while you are correct, that I could have selected a turbo to better make power down low, this one certainly still increases the power throughout the entire rpm range, but biases its major power improvement to the 4000rpm+ range.

while the LSx engines are great bang for buck they are really over talked about lately...same with turbo lag...

I am debating an LSx swap vs SR20DET vs just buying a GTO right now.

There is a mofobucs video on youtube showing many very fast cars...there is SR20DET 240SX that just wipes them all.

its running a GT35R and built engine.

I am looking at running the GT2871R.
