Well I Think I Underclocked My 2000+ to Death

Well I believe I made a dumb move. I was trying to underclock my Athlon XP 2000+ on an Biostar M7NCD Pro Nforce2 Ultra motherboard. I went into the BIOS and lowered the FSB to 100Mhz and at the same time changed the multiplier to 10x instead of the regular 12.5x. I should have know that the processor is locked and there is no way to change the multiplier, but for some reason I thought it might work anyway.

I rebooted the system and now nothing happens. It's basically doing the same thing as the last time my computer broke (I think it was due to shipping it home), in which case a new motherboard fixed my problem. The computer will turn on, but no video will show up and the hard drive will start but not boot anything. Is there any possibility of fixing this problem without buying a new Mainboard/CPU?

If the multipier is locked then why did it let you change it? Anyways just reset your bios with the CMOS jumper or pop the battery out.

For the life of me I have no idea why it let me. For some dumb reason I assumed it might have been o.k. to lower the multiplier as long as you don't increase it. But anyhow I took the battery out for five minutes with the power unplugged and it still won't boot up. I'd assume it's a hardware problem at this point.

Well crazy thing...I removed the battery for ten minutes and it was still broken. Then I ended up reseting the BIOS and it worked. Boy am I happy...that's another 130 bucks I don't have to spend. Then again now I'll have to find some other excuse for upgrading 🙂. Thanks again.
