Well I needed a new calculator so I bought one.

Always was a fan of RPN so I bought this:

Should be here Tuesday.

I didn't know they still made RPN calcs. I don't like the looks of the buttons. Those look like standard issue, and not the bullet proof variety of the old HPs.

Nice. I hate RPN though, so I'll stick to TI. I recently found my TI-86 that I bought in like 1997. Still has all of the programs I wrote in high school.

Wow, didn't know that HP still made calculators. Awesome!

Still have my 48SX bought during college (around end of 1991 or start of 92). Bought it from Service Merchandise (now closed down).

is the TI 89 still the best calculator out there?

Not if you ask HP guys 😀

I suppose it depends on what you are after. The TI has a better screen but the RPN really is a better way to approach numerical entry. It takes a few minutes to get the hang of it, but it's faster.

if it's cheaper, i'll bite 🙂 felt quite stupid after reading that one xkcd..

hehe i was just wondering if the tech has advanced at all in the last 10 years. i would expect some sweet GUI/touch screen or something by now. i had a ti 86 back in HS in the late 90s then got a TI 89 for college in undergrad.

Na, it's pretty much the same. The 50g will probably be the last one from HP and emulators will rule the day. I'll never regret having a real one though. 🙂

My engr teacher preaches this calculator is like the savior of the universe... says all TI are inferior.

Yet, everyone uses TI because we don't know how to use the HP.

The 50g is great. I got one about a year ago to replace my 48g. It was a huge improvement in operation and capabilities. The enter key placement and mimicry of the TIs irritated me but oh well, not much you can do about it. The keys aren't quite as nice as my 48g but I think they are still a world better than TI keys. People also say that they chew up batteries but I haven't really noticed that. One thing that will make every TI owner envious, regardless of how much they hate (or don't understand) RPN, is the SD card slot.

I still prefer (and use) my 48g case over the 50g's leather case.

Exact same for me here except I had the 48GX.

I don't understand what is so hard to learn about RPN. It took a day to get used to but after that, pure love. <3

EDIT: My youngest brother just got that one, btw. Everyone in our family uses HP's. :smug;
