Screw NetFlix and their false advertising. (I actually still have it but I really should get rid of it)

why do we have to go through this every time a netflix thread is made?

Because people have their panties in a bunch over a company who provides a tremendous service at a great price but take a little creative license with the word, "unlimited"

I liked it for awhile, but got tired of waiting when I wanted a movie that day.

I ended up dropping it and have been using Hollywood Video's MVP service for the last couple months. Not quite as nice when it comes to new movies (unless you want to pay regular rental price you have to wait about 4-6 weeks before a movie is eligible for 'free' rental under the MVP plan.) But it's great for non-brand new releases and older films. Plus I can get whatever I'm in the mood for (or have time for) that day.

If there wasn't a Hollywood Video on my regular commute I probably wouldn't bother, but since there is (and since they have an amazing selection compared to Blockbuster) I think it's been worth it.

It doesn't really bother me that much. Not so much that I am going out and joining the class action suits against both Blockbuster and NetFlix. I've even kept the servic, albeit at the 1-at-a-time out plan for $10 a month. If I was really unhappy (as in panties in a bunch), I would of stopped doing business with them.

That said, I merely brought this point up because the OP is so "OMG this is the coolest thing thats ever happened since sliced bread" about netflix, which is the way we all felt at first. It wears off.

meh, i still think the amount of movies i get, the selection, with no late fees, not having drive anywhere, deal with a store and its employees, and how soon i get them for a low fee each month is still pretty fvcking great.

and yes, as i said earlier, i have been throttled already.

For those that don't have it and are considering it, I am telling you that you should sign up right now, I am loving it. Just got my first movies, and now I can catch up on all the movies I haven't seen recently and all the old movies everyone talks about that I never saw.

Just wait 'till you get throttled or something. I cancelled it due to their shady business practices.

i guess renting as many dvds as you can, burning them, returning, and repeating isn't shady? no reason you need that many dvds a month unless you have no job and life.

when i 1st started with netflix a few months ago, i got a movie like the day after i returned one. now i send one in and get the next 2 days later. not that big of a deal to me. most of the time i don't even get to watch them until a few days after i get them anyway.

any reasonable person should have no problem with this.

not everyone that is throttled is a burn and returner. I went from 12 movies a month down to 6-9 a month.

i know, i've been throttled too, but its not that big of a deal.

what plan do you have? how far away is your distribution center?
I never burnt nor thought about burning a DVD that I received from Netflix yet I got throttled because I used their service too much.

I considered their throttling policy, BEFORE they mentioned that they infact used one, to be shady business practices. When they finally fessed up, I cancelled me subscription.

Tried Netflix...got great service...at first...then, like everyone else, I got throttled. Wemt from havint 2 turn-arounds in a week (2 movies per time) to one. I'm only about 80 miles from their San Jose service center) so the time involved was ridiculous. Switched to Blockbuster, and with a couple of exceptions (apparently lost movies) thier service has been outstanding. I usually get my movies the next day after they ship, (netflix got to be 2-3 days) and they recieve & credit them back in less than 2 days. When I keep my queue full enough, I easily do 2 turn-arounds per week...however, I've pretty much run out of movies to watch, (new releases have sucked recently) so I'll probably cancel it next billing cycle. Never burned any movies I've rented from any venue...(I'm one of those who consider that theft) besides, how many times can you watch the same movie?
