I am a recent grad of UMD w/a CS degree, and I didn't really start lookin for a job hardcore until probably the first week of July. After sending my resume to over probably 30 places from the Washington Post, and probably over 30 companies from Monster.com, and after interviews with 2 companies, I FINALLY GOT AN OFFER!!! :D :D :D :D

As some of you may know, I had an interview at Nemetschek las Wednesday. They are the creators of the CAD Program Vectorworks. They are expanding their company now and are hiring fresh people, so I won't be replacing anyone. I was in the interview for 2 hours and I felt it went well. And it went well ...

This morning I woke up to a message on the answering machine from the lead guy I talked to. He wanted me to call him back on his vacation at his cell phone because he has an offer for me and would like to discuss it in detail. So I called him back, but he was tied up until 3pm this afternoon. I work 3-9 at my current job so he said he will call me back sometime right after 9pm.

So I don't know the details of the pay and everything, but I do know when I told them what I was looking for, he said it sounded like the correct area they are looking to pay. So I am really looking forward to this call tonight :). And btw ... the job is for a Software Engineer to work on their program Vectorworks.

CLIFFNOTES:
- After 2 months of looking I had a job offer made to me. Company is Nemetschek, creators of Vectorworks.
- The exact details are still in the air, I will find out when I talk to the guy.
- I talk to him tonight at 9pm-ish
- I am very excited!

UPDATE 1:
well for a little update, i woke up this morning and had a message on the phone machine for me to call the lead guy back on his cell phone because he was on vacation. so i called him back and he said he wanted to discuss a few different offers. however he was tied up until 3pm. however I worked from 3-9 today and he told me he would call me back after 9pm. and now its like 10:10pm and still no call yet, so it's starting to get annoying because I am waiting to get to my GF's house

UPDATE 2:
Okay well I just got the formal offer from the fellow :). He ended up not calling me last night but I gave him a ring this morning. The formal offer letter will be mailed out to me today.

They are offering me what-I-wanted-per/yr with full time benefits, as well as 2 bonuses. The xmas bonus is standard 1.5% of salary, and the one that comes in March is the company profit bonus. It will be atleast 6%, and can get higher. Last year he said it was a bonus of 14% which would be a nice chunk of change :).

We receive 10 vacation days, 5 sick days, and they all roll over if not used. We also get the week between Xmas and New years off, which is pretty nice too :)

I probably won't start till early September - Mid September, but I am DEFINITELY taking this offer :) Wish me luck!

yah no doubt. I just hope that I can get as high as I was looking for. since this is my first job, I am like %99 sure I will take it, even if the pay is not as high as I was looking for. after looking for jobs, I realize how important experience is to have. so i would probably bust my balls just for the experience alone :). but like I said, when I told them what I was looking for,, and that I had done research about the salaries in the area, they smiled and said good job and its the right price range :)

 I start my job on Mon August 30th, started looking in April had probably 25+ interviews and finally found the best position for me. In my experience jobs on monster.com are 90% spam. I found that using the University's job search engine MonsterTrak was much better, thats how I found the job I am in now.

I'm in the MD/VA/DC area ... I would say that the salary is pretty good to start. With the bonuses it's almost up to $50,000/yr which is the area I was looking for. but after trying to get a job for 2 months and only having 2 interviews, it was alot harder than I thought it would be to get a job. I am taking this one DEFINITELY not only for the money, but also for the experience.

I really wanted to get into commercial software also, and this is the perfect start! I won't be making little programs for the company internally, but for consumers to actually buy in stores and something I can see when I go into a store :D

Congrats............although discussing salary and benefits etc especially in public with a link to the company is not the brightest idea. That information is supposed to be confidential b/t you and the company.
