Well I just got back from my first job interview. I think it went well. The position is for a software engineer. I have never had a 'real' job yet, as I just graduated from college in May. The company is called Electromotive, Inc. and it's linked as well.
It sounds pretty cool though what they do. They make stuff for race cars, and they were telling me that most of their customers run cars that run under 7 second quarter miles, which is pretty damn fast. So it's not for everyday riced out cars, but the real deal.
I would be programming in Visual Basic, as well as Assembly language (which I have never had hands on experience with, just written assembly on paper for classes). They are also thinking about converting the whole app from VB to C++ or something else, and would also like to be able to get it to run on PDA's so that customer's won't HAVE to have a laptop to connect their PC to their car to run the software, but instead spend $300 on a PDA or something and run it from that.
All in all the job sounds like it would be awesome! The commute is about 30-35 mins, and its going OPPOSITE of the typical work traffic pattern, so thats always good
. The salary I asked for was $50k/yr and they sounded like they had no problems with that either. The benefits were great as well. 2 weeks paid vacation, 1 week of sick leave, and they also take a trip to the Indy 500 every year, as well as to this huge car show in Vegas (i forget the name), and its all paid by them for the employees to go, so that also sounded cool
Well I hope I get the job! I am kinda excited from the way the interview went
