Failures in hot/cold is mostly from units which use a battery to write out memory after losing power. Capacitor based ones mitigate that problem.

Right but I haven't been able to find a capacitor camera that has parking mode. I would just hardwire it to my car battery since Alabama is too warm for a normal battery pack, but they just don't exist.

You should be relying on your home or apartment's camera while you're sleeping at home.

The only thing to worry about would be if you park your car while at a restaurant or some event. Then you can just bring along a battery pack for the few hours it sits parked in a public place.

I'm kinda amazed that none of the big car manufacturers have built dash cams into their cars. They have done the heavy engineering work of automated driving, and yet can't seem to do the simple task of wiring up a security camera to their products.

The least expensive parking mode dashcam I know of has capacitor avail, Mini 0903.

Unfortunately this still doesn't cover areas where there is street parking only which is when a camera is needed the most (imho). The only way to get around it would be having a battery in your car all the time or coordinate with everyone on the street to put a camera on their house to provide full street coverage and share data if an incident were to occur.

Several cars have multiple cameras in them from the factory, even 360 coverage.
Seems trivial to make them motion activated with record capability so that while parked, they would capture any incidents.

Would uninsured motorists property damage cover this since this was technically a hit-and-run? It turns out that I have uninsured motorist coverage.
