... What are you going to do about it? Get even worse DSL service?
I can't believe I'm defending at&t but with bellsouth.net dsl, I pay for 6mb and just got 6.49mb according to speedtest.net. Today's test was faster than usual but I'd say it averages 6+mb. I live in the country, if this matters.

All non-pro grade internet service is "best effort"

Even most business class is "best effort"

Do they accept your best effort to pay the bill? mofos.

They sure do. It's called "Collection Agencies after disconnect."

I  my Mediacom 25Mbps/1Mbps actual versus 10Mbps/1Mbps advertised speed for $29.95/mo.

You should try a few runs, on say different servers during different times of the days. I agree, paying to upgrade to over 50% advertised increase in speed, but only getting 10-20% increase is not right. But there are so many factors that one or two times isn't a good indicator. If you continue to get poor performance I'd go back to the slower tier.

Well none of that washed when I asked if they were at least going to kiss me when I paid my bill. She said she was flattered but is married.

I might have to kill her husband. She sounds awesome.

Another thing to check. Rumer has it that when FIOS first came out, certain routers could not handle the full 15 Mbps. Of course, that was a long time ago and my memory could be wrong😀
