Exactly. I know at least one friend did SMC for a couple of years and is graduating UCSB this semester. It does work.

ed's on the right path... if you work really hard at the JC level, you can go to an even better school than sdsu. after all, they rejected you, so how great can they be, right?

i don't know if your parents would let you and would probably complain it would cost too much money, but if you're willing you could go further away for JC, so that you can apply yourself better. but if you're really determined there are people who work fulltime and go to school fulltime. that is also another option. you might be able to learn how to use your time more effectively because you will have so much to take care of - school, work, a place to live, feeding yourself, etc.

I hope you get in man. Hard not getting in where you want.

Again follow the advice everyone here has said.

Hope you get to go where you want to go.

I thought SDSU was really easy to get into. A 2.86 and a 1280 definitely should've gotten you in. That's weird. If you plan on doing the JC transfer route, aim for UCSD if you want to stay in San Diego.

Growing up I thought any state school was easy to get into. Included in their letter was the averages for those who got in...

My gpa - 2.86
SDSU Accepted Avg. GPA - 3.69
My SAT - 1280
SDSU Avg. SAT - 1,123

I know that 3.69 is inflated by those who got like 4.0's or 4.2's and applied to a state school for financial reasons or as backup, but a 3.5 is leaps and bounds above my GPA. All I can think about now is how stupid I was to think my chances were guarenteed back in november when I applied.

The state schools have somethign called a CSU Elgibility Index that they use to rank students

if u took the SAT's...
(High school GPA * 800) + SAT Score = index

for ACT's
(HS GPA * 200) + (10 * ACT Composite Score) = index

My index was 3568, average was like 4000, low was around 3757.

Haven't gotten any rejection letter yet (WHEW!)... still a month until CAL replies... 🙁

But yah, JC would be a good route to go about getting into SDSU (or majority of the colleges for that matter), I might have to do that if I get rejected by CAL.... 🙁

If a 2.86 and a 1280 SAT aren't good enough to get me into longbeach, someone please tell me now. I'd appreciate your honesty so I could start planning for my future.

ouch... if i went to SDSU or had those grades my azn parents would kill me...

As dismal as your words are, I understand. I was in the same boat the majority of my life.

my hs gpa was like a 2.5 and i didn't take my sat. went straight to mesa community college and then transferred to sdsu. i'm actually posting from the sdsu library right now...just took me 3.5 yrs to transfer though... 😱

okay... that's was kinda mean, but my parents seriously expect me to go colleges like Stanford, MIT, Caltech, UCB or else...
but i wish you have a brighter future

I personally consider my future very bright. My extended future, not my near future. Your choice of words, if you didn't mean to sound harsh, are poor

You were probably closer than you think - US News gives this data for the freshman class:

Average high school GPA: 3.4

First-year students submitting GPA: 100%

SAT I scores (25/75 percentile):
    Verbal: 450 ? 560
    Math: 470 ? 580
    Combined: 920 ? 1140
First-year students submitting SAT scores: 97%
ACT scores (25/75 percentile):
    English: 17 ? 24
    Math: 18 ? 24
    Composite: 18 ? 23
First-year students submitting ACT scores: 27%

I'd guess the 3.6 includes all they accepted but chose to attend another school.

Looks like you'll be fine for Long Beach:

Average high school GPA: 3.2

First-year students submitting GPA: 100%

SAT I scores (25/75 percentile):
    Verbal: 420 ? 530
    Math: 440 ? 560
    Combined: 860 ? 1090
First-year students submitting SAT scores: 94%
ACT scores (25/75 percentile):
    English: 16 ? 23
    Math: 17 ? 23
    Composite: 17 ? 22
First-year students submitting ACT scores: 17%

Good Luck 🙂

Yup. If you need more you can find similar for free at the Princeton Review, or give me a PM and I'll get you whatever you need 🙂

Ahh memories. I got into all my requested schools except 1 on the waiting list. It's because I applied to mostly state schools that were cheap and accepted tons of people. SUNY schools rule.

I'm dissapointed because I know I didn't fullfill my potential. I've always had the intelligence to compete with the top students, my work ethic is so bad though 🙁
Story of my life.

whoa some one who has the paid thing! hey can you post the 19 schools on their "Undergraduate engineering specialties: Schools with doctorate programs: Computer Engineering" list?

it's okay if you're lazy, i understand... just thought i'd give it a shot 😛
