China moves forward while America moves back.

LOL! Yeah, it's sooo great that, beginning this July, if you are facing the death penalty for committing the heinous crime of bribery, your case will actually be heard in open court and not in secret behind closed doors. Woohoo... big steps forward for China!

Bribery of a government official ect should be a death sentence.

But no capital punishment for aggravated murder? Don't make me roll my eyes again...

Where did I ever say that?....

I support the Death Penalty for a very wide range of things.

Jaywalking too?

Going from one extreme to another eh Vic..typical enough

What major human rights violations have they commited in the last few years? I can see a few from the states from secret prisons, to torture, to jailing without reason. China has that, but have a massive list of convictions over the last year as they have cleaned that up. They have admitted to it, and are fixing it, wheras the US has admited to it, than defended it. As I said, two countries going in the opposite direction.

The one difference is that we never mistreat our own citizens, it's always the enemy (if we even do at that, it's debatable if we even do mistreat anyone...). China's abuses are against their own citizens, makes it much worse.

Maybe if bribery of a government official were taken seriously in America, we wouldn't have such a corrupt government.

China's government is corrupt despite all their seriousness.

But at least they're paying lip service to the idea of changing it. What does our Congress do? Vote down legislation to provide them with oversight, not require oil execs and other Big Business types to testify under oath, play politics with a dead woman...

Note my use of the question mark and the part of your post I bolded. By your own admission, you're more than willing to use the death penalty against non-violent offenders, so I was just curious how far you took that. I see obviously not quite that far, judging by your all-too-typical hurt feelings.

I consider jailing our own citizens for victimless crimes such as smoking marijuana 'mistreating citizens'.

I can't. Although I wonder how many Iraqis that America has displaced as a result of conquering their nation.

No one is saying China or America is perfect. My comment was only that America seems to be taking steps back and that China is taking steps forward in terms of corruption.

When China sensors and owns their population, I do not give them credit for human rights. Give me a call when their people are free enough to read a news paper without being shot.

I thikn the fact that 25,000 cases went to court is something to talk about...I would wager to say that most went off free without getting screwed...

Anyways corruption, despite this, is a HUGE part of their system and it takes a LOT of overhead. Every Chinese person (ie: not born here...born there) I have spoken to say it is a major problem but everyone accepts it. This is like them saying they have a 100 yd^2 field of sludge, and after determining what area was the worst offender they removed 5 yd^2 of it...

What brutality? It seems like some very skewed reporting you are referring to.
China is going through there growin pains, but are doing an awsome job from what I see, and look like they will be comming out ahead of everyone, economically, socially, as well as government structure.
No-one can doubt that the economy is not as advanced as the US, or that it will grow fast. But why do you consider chinese society inferior to western societies as it is?

Show me ONE example where someone was put in jail for smoking weed. It just doesn't happen, and besidies, these are laws that lawmakers (who are elected by the public) put into place. I don't think it's mistreating the public to ask them to abide by the laws the people they elected made.

So... When your leader stands up and looks you in the eye and states "we do NOT torture"... BS... Just look at the pics and video. I give them a 5 out of 10 ... Be it our own citizens or our enemies does it really matter? NO...

What does human rights mean to you? I guess you believe in Selective honesty and selective human rights. Sorry bud, but you can't have it both ways...

As for china? GOOD for them! Keep it up!
