Well I played HL2 for a couple of hours last night, all fine and dandy. About a half hour after quitting, Steam gives me a message "The cdkey you've registered has already been to an existing steam account, and is therefore invalid..". Uhhh, yeah.. ok. I'm praying that this is just a error and it gets fixed ASAP, but now I can't even play HL2 or CS. And before you ask any questions, yes, the first time I registered the cd-key, it worked, and yes I registered it to the same account. Also, I purchased the hard copy of the game. This issue has probably already been addressed, but I have to be at work in a couple minutes, so I couldn't have enough time to search for it 😛

Just out of curiosity, does this mean that if you buy the retail version of the game, you can't sell it to someone else when you're done with it because Steam won't let them use it?

That hardly seems fair.

this has been the policy, once registered to a steam account, the CD key is worthless. If you forget your password, you are screwed. You can sell the account, though.

They do say if you mail your CD with CDkey to them, they can look into doing something, but that sounds hardly worth doing...

No no no, I can get on my Steam account, that's not the problem. The problem is, is that Steam says that the CD-Key is already registered to a different account, which is impossible. The first time I registered they key, it went along smoothly, and I played through the first few levels, plus CS:Source. Later in the night, I get a pop-up saying that my cd-key is registered to another account. I don't know how that makes sense, seeing that I registered that key to my account the first time. I figure I'll get this figured out, but it's just a pain in the arse to actually have to deal with this.

yes, if you mail it to them they will give you a valid cd key so you can go out and buy a new set of CDs

does this mean you can not install on a 2nd comp, and that if your HD crash could u reinstall or no-go?

Not really rlelevant, but I also purchased the Retail Standard Edition. Everytime I want to play HL2, or even CS:S, it asks me to insert my disk, for authentification. Do I always have to do this?

Or should I post this on steampowered?
