I wonder if they can call and break the trade? Our traders make mistakes here sometimes and they are often able to call have the trade broken.

I guess it may be more difficult to do that with online trading.

I have and use Scottrade myself and you don't need to call to cancel pending/queued trades. And since whatever executed cannot be reversed you can only cancel what hasn't executed yet. But it says he lost 50k in 7 mins so it's his fault for not paying attention, the loss could've been minimal had he noticed and cancelled immediately.

No doubt it's his fault. I just know our traders, on occassion, are able to call the other house and have the trade broken if it's a larger error. It must be only a real-world, non-internet trading thing though.
