We hope you drop by often and say hello. ;)

We like to recommend that all of our new members go to the following link:

How to run SETI and Join TeAm AnandTech

Once you have your SetiDriver setup and working properly it is recommended that you use one of the TeAm's SetiQueues.
This will insure you have WUs to crunch when the Seti Server is down.
How To configure your SetiDriver to use a TeAm SetiQueue. :)

Our Mentor TeAm <----- :wine:<clink>:wine: Kudos to our "Big Brothers" :)

Hehheheeheh cool !!! I didn't know I was supposed to get a real life welcome :p

I have a question for you guys though. I read this tutorial and it recommended to download like 10 units at a time for a fast computer, something equivalent to 3 days of processing. I have a Barton 2500+ and I think I have processed 10 units in less than 24h... am I missing something, or the tutorial old a bit old?

I'm going to set up my P3-500E on SETI this afternoon too.

Yes it's a little dated these days I keep 30 work units on my 2700 xp just in case.
Welcome to the team.

Is there a way to run the SETI driver as a service?
I'd like to set this up on my server too (the P3-500E I mentionned) but I like to keep it logged off when I'm not working on it.

Hello and Welcome Gasaraki and kag! :D

kag wrote, " ... am I missing something, or the tutorial old a bit old?"

lol, I wrote that SetiDriver instruction set long ago and it has been updated many times along the way. I used to be known as Smokeball around here. ;)

The more up to date version is in the link in my sig-line, as well as many other TeAm Mates. It is also included in every Welcome Message. :)

The particular part you refer currently reads as follows:

Step 7: Choose the following options:

Maximum Processes = 1 (recommended)
Desired Cache Size = Number of workunits you wish downloaded at a time
(Recommendation: Approximately 7 days worth of workunits, or about 20 for a 1 GHz machine and about 40 for a 2 GHz machine).

I guess I should add "and so forth" to the end of the "Recommendation" line for we are probably not to far away from 4 GHz systems. :Q :)

Yeah, that FAQ is a bit old. I still remember the old days where it took 24 hours for my 4 systems just to do 12 WU's! :Q Now my single P4-2.4C does like 16-17 per day by itself. :D

Welcome to the TeAm!

Oh, as far as that "running as a service question", the answer is yes. All of my clients are running the command line client as a hidden service. Works very well. Please PM me and I'll send you the package I use or maybe someone here has a link you can download directly (hint, hint guys). ;)

I have a few questions again. What is the point of using a proxy with the SETI drivers? Is it just to be able to have some stats locally?

First of all, welcome kag and Gasaraki!

Proxies keep a large cache on hand just in case the main server goes down. Of course, it does seem like too much redundancy but the SETI servers have gone down for some time and the proxies add another layer of protection :D

does that mean that a proxy and the SetiQueue thing are the same?

Welcome to the TeAm!:D

I think he means a SetiQueue, not a proxy ;)

If you want to setup SETI Driver as a service, not just the CLI client, you can use the same procedure as installing the CLI, just modify the .reg file to point to seti driver.exe instead :)

Welcome Kag.
I suppose I should pop in here and Ask if you got my welcome e-mail.
I seem to get few replies from the new members and wonder if my e-mails ever arrive and are read.

Yes Soggysocks, I received both your email and your PM from this morning. I didn't reply to your email because I figured you were probably busy with "more important" things than just saying Hi. hehe.

SETI is up and running on my main box, a Barton 2500+ but as I asked above, I don't know how to install it as a service on my P3-500E server. Judging from some people's responses, I am probably missing some kind of package designated for that purpose.
