OK, so the last one was to save money over the long haul. This one is just a pure splurge.
It was too good of a deal to pass up. When we first bought it, I thought that I could fix it and sell it for a nice profit. They're selling for 6-13k right now.Before we even took delivery though, it became apparent that we're just going to keep it. We're in love with these cars, and it would be too hard to replace. And Jay Leno thinks they'll be collectors cars one day, so that's good enough for me. :biggrin: This is only the 3rd sub-$3000 specimen I've seen.
2000 Silver 5 speed with 226k miles and a lifetime average of 70.2MPG.
Just after taking delivery:
The Insight in the background is #2, the 443k mile car.
Towed it over to a friends place near where the transport dropped it off and began work. We knew it had a fuel leak, but didn't know what to think about it. As it turns out, mice had chewed through both the fuel pump and fuel gauge sender wires, and also chewed a nice hole in the fuel line.
Spliced the wires back together and bought a new length of fuel hose while charging the dead 12V battery. Had it going in a couple of hours.
It's alive!
Drove it home(60mi), got 74MPG - which is good, it's a 2,000' elevation climb.
Car: $1000
Shipping: $800
Fuel Line: $12.46
Total cost of ownership thus far: $1812.46
It needs a few things, but minor overall. It pretty much doesn't get better than this in the Insight world.
It's actually in better condition than my current daily driver, #1, so it very well may become my daily driver once I swap all my goodies over.
