Hey All,

I am one of the lucky ones that got in on the EVGA 6800 LE/Ultra! I followed thugs directions and flashed the bios...and it is running stabel at the stock 425/1100. IThe other day i installed Coolbits and was trying to see if it would go any further and i encounterd weirdness....maybe someone can tell me whats up.

When i tried to OC further the core or mem speeds and pressed the test settings button, it would come back saying test faild, and i couldnt OC....so I tried to lower all the settings...and same result setting test faild...i kinda thought that was very weird, that it failed if I lowerd the settings, yet it runs totaly fine at the 425/1100.

For all you wha are gonna say "Be happy it runs at 425/1100" I am totaly Stoked i got a stock ultra for $325!!!! but i want more!!!!!!!!! am i doing somthing wrong in coolbits? should i try to oc using the Rivatuner?

thanx

Let's see- you got a 6800Ultra that was downclocked and sold at a substantially reduced priced because it couldn't meet EVGA's quality control at Ultra speed. You were successful in OCing it to Ultra speed with a bios flash that voided your warranty, and now you'd like us to tell you how to run it at Ultra Extreme speeds because you think that's how fast it should be.

I see. Maybe you should do a volt mod, again voiding your warranty, because everyone knows the more current you pass through faulty silicon, the faster it will run until you totally destroy it?

Sounds like someone is still bent he didnt get in on the deal while it was HOTTTA!!!

but the real question is; why, if it runs stable at the stock 425/1100, will it not down clock and pass the setting test in coolbits? i lowerd it to (400 core) that made me think maybe I did somthing wrong, or Coolbits was being weird...

I read your post, I just don't want you to break your video card that you got an excellent deal on and be in a position to have to sell your honor for $325 with a fraudulent RMA, or eat $325..

I don't personally care about this deal, I have a 6800GT and a 6800NU that does 16/6 350/800. I'd buy an Ultra if I wanted one.

If I had your card, I'd run it at stock speed and be happy.

Its amazing how you gain sooo much knowledge of my character just from me asking for helpfull input! You know, you should realy start your own psychic hotline!

This is an enthusiast site. Voiding our warranties goes with the territory and we are damn proud of it!!! :p

I did'nt see one word about him RMA'ing his card

Lot's of people have made recommendation to not use Coolbit's on this card. Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

I don't think you can blame Rollo. This looks like it's going in a certain direction to me too. Maybe it won't, but........

I'll just ask anyway.

Nebakanezzar, what will you do if the card starts to exhibit signs of failure at stock speeds?

I've seen posts about these so-called "le/ultras" as well as posts about gts upped to ultra speeds going south. And no small # of them. Just because you can clock the card up to those points, dont expect the longevity of a legitimate ultra 6800. Like I said check guru3d, hardocp, nvnews etc. a fair # of people have had their cards die running them beyond spec after a few months. If you want an ultra, buy one. My card clocks to ultra, but I just don't get it. There is nothing I cant throw at it 1600x1200 max settings at stock that it does not run brilliantly. Love it when your ram goes bad from being pushed too hard, cause thats what seems to be happening to these 6800s being ran out of spec.

Realy? lots of ultra's and GT's go bad from OC'ing? I havent seen anything about Ultra's and GT's crapping out. I have seen where they dont OC well or run like crap out of the box. In my personal experience from OC'ing CPU and GPU's ive never had anything crap out...people were always like, i wouldnt do that cuz it will burn out...i was like whatever...maybe i have been lucky.

LTC8K6, If it burns out, it burns out.

I actualy had problems with artifacts when i forst got it. But it seems the LE bios wer flawed and stock at 325/1100. I followed advice from this forum that said it would run at stock Ultra speeds and run better with the Ultra bios. once i flashed the bios...it worked fine!

Can you guys post some links to where people had their cards burn out so i dont make the same mistakes they did.

thanx

Why would you NOT be happy for getting an ultra for $325...are you NUTS?!?! You really need someone to tell you why you can't go higher then ultra speeds on a faulty GT/Ultra card? Use some common sense here and be happy for what you got out of the card, before you fry it. IMO I'd downclock it to give it a longer life because you will only lose maybe .5-1fps

ya know, sometimes you just have to take a chance! step out of the box!, Take a chance!, live a little.

Call me wild and crazzy if you want , but if you color inside the lines your whole life you will have no fun!

This will allow you to step out of the box while you fry the card inside the box: (you dont want to get covered in magic smoke)

(shamelessly ripped from overclockers forums)
1.Open Riva Tuner
2.Click the "Power user" tab up
3.go down the list untill you see Rivatuner 2.0 RC 15.2 \NVIDIA\Overclocking
4. Hit the "+" in front of it to drop down the menu
5.Double click on the darker grey area next to "disableinternalclocktest" and the one thats like disablememclkreset and change it to "1" instead of nothing or "0"

I have one of these LE cards running 425/1100. It peaks around 445/1180, so Im going to keep it at stock. Got good airflow and the card runs cool, idle 47 peak 67. These cards were made to run 425/1100, but failed to be stable at elavated test temps. I see no reason they wont last if you keep them at reasonable speeds and keep them cool.

Errr, yeah, "fun"!

Clicking a button on a program someone else wrote to make your card run a little faster than spec, which you can only notice by a little higher 3dMark score.

They'll probably have a "Sandals" resort dedicated to big fun like this soon!

Excuse me, I'm going to go format some floppies and defrag my hard drive. I took work off tomorrow, so tonite I PAR-TAY!
