Weirdest Speaker Problem Ever!

Ok, i have a pair of logitech Z-340 speakers...2.1, and one morning i woke up to play some nice music when i discovered that the right speaker, the one with the power and volume etc wouldnt work, and only the sub and left speaker work. HOWEVER, the reason im so wierded out by this is because when i stick a 1/8" headphone jack like Half way in, to the point where the two lines on the jack are covered (for the stereo output), they BOTH WORK, except its only half the volume, as if they are sharing the power! HELP! i have no idea what to do! i dont want to have to put my headphones in them half way every time i want to play a song with 2.1! ANy ideas?!

Thanks so much

Sounds as if the contacts within the headphone jack are dirty, bent, or lost spring tension. This type of jack is usually of the "closed circuit " type - it switches the speakers OFF when the headphone plug is inserted. With the jack partially inserted you are "halfway" between stages (feeding BOTH circuit paths) resulting in the attenuated volume level. Sounds like time to open that right speaker and REPLACE the jack. BTW - these type jacks usually have a cover over the whole 'switch' part making cleaning almost impossible.
