Ok well I have been messing with my parents' pc for a while and had to een get a new mobo because the kt133 chipset was so damn picky....They have a kt266a mobo(shuttle ) now

What i have neer been able to do is get their WD 60GB 5400rpm drive to exist as master. I have it set to cable select as it doesn't work any other way..I'm past this problem, but I was just curious why? They have a 10krpm seagate that was their OS drive until; their floppy died..cannot reload Advansys drivers during setup :(

Anyways they have the 60GB as cable select..it goes to primary slave... until I buy an Adpatec scsi card card(no need to load the drivers in XP) but I was still curious on why this occurs...

Additionally, when I set the the system to its default clockspeed(TB 1.33) it crashes repeatedly. I have it a 1ghz now and it purs like a kitten. Still, it bbehoves me to imagine what the problem could be...

The system is done now....but I am just curious

Thanks peeps

did you try setting it in the bios? if not, then your board might be broken. i would definately try a different ide hard drive to see if it actually sets or not. if it does it with another hdd then definately rma the board. i know its down time, but at least in the end youll have a working board that wont give you problems with hdd's.

See if there is a jumper or dip switch that sets 133 fsb operation. Some boards let you select 133 in the bios, but it doesn't set the proper pci and agp dividers which can cause problems. Also make sure you have the correct part of the IDE cable (the end) plugged into the hard drive if it is set for cable select and you want it to be master.
