Weird wireless performance - wired ok!

Hi.

I have a DLink 4300 'gaming' router. My network looks like this:

Connected to the router is an Xbox 360, wired pc fileserver (XP), wireless laptop(XP), and one laptop(Vista) that is wired most of the time, but will use wirelessly as well.

On the Vista laptop, wired performance is great. I use VNC to connect to the XP fileserver with no problems.

Wireless however, is a different story. On the XP laptop, and when I disconnect the Vista laptop, wireless performance is painfully slow. Google maps won't even load. I am getting 200k DL and 70k UL. Also, when I try to connect to the fileserver wirelessly via VNC, it hangs then disconnects.

Does anyone know how I can improve this??? Thank you!

EDIT: My wireless router is 10 feet away from the laptop in question in the same room.

Have you tried updating drivers?

Have you enabled any of the game fuel features? I have the DGL4300 and have never had issues like this. Out of curiosity, are all websites slow or just ones like google maps (or even hotmail if you have an account, try it). The reason I ask I will get to after a response.

You have interference. Change channels to 1, 6, 11 and make sure the antennas are pointing straight up and down. There is such a thing as being "too close" to an antenna specifically if you "point" the antenna to the client. Eliminate sources of interference as well like bluetooth, phones, microwaves - keep them away from the client and access point.

There is a new firmware v1.9 see if that helps. Update wireless drivers. Change wireless channels.

The VNC issue might be due to the gamefuel. Try disabling it to see if it helps.
