Just yesterday an odd thing started to happen when I try to shutdown windows98SE. Whenever I click shutdown and hit OK, it just restarts. It always used to shut down fine, but now I don't know what the heck happened. Everything else works perfectly fine. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it? Thanks for any help,

Mike

You can try to download the Shutdown Patch for Win98....that usually fixes the problem.

What motherboard do you have? Do you have any USB devices or SBLive?

hi, I have A7V with SBLive, but no USB devices. Win98 doesn't shut down most of the time, just hangs on the "your computer is shutting down" screen... the MS win98 shutdown patch seems NOT to work on my machine. Any idea?

For the A7V, do this:

Enable LPT Interrupt Sharing in the SB Emulation Device in the device manager.

Disable the DOS SB Emulation in the device manager (optional).

Set IRQ 5 Reserved to Yes in PCI/PNP Resource Exclusion list in the BIOS.

Disable Legacy USB in the BIOS.
