Weird water effect with new GF3 Ti 200. :(

I've just installed my Leadtek GF3 Ti 200 and I've got this weird problem. My desktop is just like when you drop something in still water. Half a centimeter thick lines are moving towards the bottom of my screen, just like when you look at a monitor through another monitor. I'm using the latest nVidia drivers.

check the refresh rate. go to control panel->display->settings->advanced->adapter and experiment with various refresh rates (but stay within the bounds of your monitor's refresh rate range for your particular resolution). your problem sounds like your refresh rate is too low. i, too, was having problems when i first installed my visiontek ti200. i changed the refresh rate from "optimal" to 85 Hz and life was good.

Well, sorry I missed out some important information in my original post. The resolution is 1600x1200@85Hz. This is within my monitor's specifications, plus I've been running my Voodoo5 at this resolution for more than a couple of months. So that's not the problem.

What's even more weird is that it goes quiet sometimes, it stops doing it and then it starts again! I've got no clue what this is all about. I even tried different resolutions and refresh rates but nothing cured it.

maybe your monitor is dying...or maybe you just got a bad card?

My monitor is OK. Can't be sure about the card though.

Could be a short in your monitor cable. If you move the cable around, does it fix the problem temporarily?

I'm not at home right now, so I can't check it out. BTW I'm using a BNC cable, this woudn't have anything to do with it would it?

things to try:
1) lower the resolution
2) reinstall video drivers
3) check if cables are damaged
4) check if video card is seated in the agp slot properly
5) try using a standard 15-pin cable

It sounds to me like it might be moire. If you have a moire adjustment, try that. The "Nokia monitor test program" is good for setting this up, along with everything else on the monitor. If you don't have it, you can find it through a search engine.

This is weird, I've only just got home and now I can't see it anymore. I think it's gone. WTF is going on?

The only think I haven't tried is to use a normal cable instead of BNC. I'll give that a shot.
