Weird TV Out Problem

Hey guys. I can always trust the anandtech forumers to sort out my issues, i hope today's is no exception!

I just got a tv so I hooked up the TV-Out on the back of my Geforce 4 MX 440 to it. On the back of the card it is s-video then it goes to a s-video to rca adapter into a rca port on my tv. (this stuff was included with the card)

Everything works pretty good. I can see the desktop on the tv. if i play a quicktime movie it shows on the tv. If I play some splinter cell is shows on the tv. The main reason i hooked it up though was so i can play .avi and dvds on my tv. Unfortunately while they play fine on my computer (windows media player 9 and power dvd 5) they just show up as a black screen on my tv. either maximized or in a window it is just black. I have not been able to find a fix for this anywhere. I'm on WinXP Pro and i have the newest nvidia drivers. Any suggestions?

i've tried divx encoded files, normal .avi, .mpegs, all don't work. also the DVDs don't work when being played in powerdvd. its' very odd.

i had a similar problem with video files not displaying properly using tv out on my old ti4200... around the 32.xx line of drivers if i recall. i had to go back to an older revision of the drivers to solve my problem

interesting. i had ot set it to video overlay seconday monitor and then it is fullscreen on the tv, neato. thanks
