When I drive barefoot, my clutch-meet is like perfect. :)

I have a better sense of when to let the clutch go and how much gas to give.

It's pretty significant difference compared to when I wear shoes. :(

Not generally a good thing. If you have to brake heavily and there is a a bit of glass or a sharp pebble on the pedal, you are screwed (or worse, someone else is screwed), as it will be your reflex action to take your foot off the pedal.

Having said that, I am guilty of doing the same occasionally, but I always ensure that there is nothing on the pedal, my foot or floor that is going to impede me from braking. Agree with you about the better "feel".

IIRC, it's actually illegal to drive barefoot in some locals. Not that you're ever going to get "caught" anyway, but.. yeah.

So get better driving shoes. I can't heel-and-toe in my dress shoes, for example. Just can't be done. But in my favorite driving Vans, I can match revs all day...

wrestling shoes are thin and can be worn for good feedback from the pedal. you can buy special racing/driving shoes that are FIA approved, but wrestling shoes will do the trick. it'll look a bit funny stepping outta the car with wrestling shoes on, however.

meh. i hate driving barefoot (only do it if I need to just move my car across the street or get gas -- NJ full-service, so no need to get out of the car at the gas station :p)

it just feels like my feet are too sensitive, and I almost need that buffer of a big 13" shoe to be able to brake properly.

I never gave any thought to the possibility of a piece of glass being on the pedal the few times I've driven stick barefoot... I prefer driving shoed anyway though, I think the better grip leads to a better feel for the clutch. On a humorous side note, I once lost an eigth of some decent green, couldn't find it for about a week. I drove to the bank & parked right in front since I only had to use the ATM really quick, and a police officer pulled up and started writing a ticket for me. I finished up at the ATM, said hello, got in the car, and as I did noticed the bag right there in plain view of the cop! If I hadn't been wearing shoes there's no way I could have fully covered it with my foot, in the diagonal position it was in :D

I drove the car barefoot a couple of times, but I don't like it. The pedals tend to "stick" to my feets.

yeah a pair of good-fitting shoes make proper heel-and-toe much easier; might try out the wrestling shoes though, they sound promising.
