Weird thing about android

Why not just use the dropbox app? Also, I find google drive, amazon music cloud, and google music easy enough

Huh... must be some way of making sure you aren't illegally copying music files.

I'm not saying iOS' approach is better, I completely see the virtues of file level access. But my work around has been to rely on the cloud. I use google music to sync my iTunes library (or just a local directory) and then use offline mode to cache as needed. One big reason I left the apple eco system is because iCloud seems like a rip off, so I do appreciate google music. and maps, flat out better than apple maps.
 
interesting, it may just be the s6, but I've been with both android and ios the past few years and android has consistently been a smoother experience for me. Probably because I never jump on new phones until I can confirm it's a good one, as is the case with my lg g2. It's so smooth as it sits that I see no reason to upgrade in the near future. I just wish the quality of the oem glass was better

OK, it's the little things that bug me about the lack of polish in android, at least what I've discovered of it (there's a lot to dig through and try for myself, reviews are often boisterous for mediocre products, I bet there's a fake review market like amazon) - the lack of polish from low resolution textures mucking up otherwise slick presentations, or using comic sans on a clock widget... Hmmm.. Oh, asymmetry - I don't like it and ios is big into balance, android designers (probably because they're often amateurs) seem to disregard some obvious rules of design. i'm making too big of an issue about launchers, but this extends into apps sometimes lacking polish or just crashing unnecessarily. my wink app is unusable on android, as an example. the latancy and tendency to crash is a million times worse than the already mediocre ios counterpart. aside from 1440p content on youtube (which is banging on the amoled screen), apps rarely take advantage of the firepower on tap. i know the s6 is new but the l3 has been out for quite a while. I also haven't seen arcade quality games on the android market yet, though there's again a lot to dig through. Just feels like a lot of hardware with nothing to do, so I take a lot of pictures, play with facebook, and retheme a lot (i've gotten ocd about it, and don't enjoy it - it stesses me out a little. i'm a little odd). at the end of the day, i could do all of this on a $160 phone and feel like i paid quite a premium for a nice screen and great design (and nice camera). hmm. i don't regret it, but i almost feel like the phone has the potential to be like a sci-fi future phone, but touchwiz makes it look and feel like it's from the early 2000s, know what I mean? I'd pay so much for a designer interface reskin with nice fonts and some pizazz
 
Who actually plays games on their phone? Phones are ok for mediocre time wasters but to buy one as a gaming platform is just.. well.. you can fill in the blank. I choose not good.

Same with media. It's great to have a nice clear picture but aside from the occasional netflix-ing while eating lunch at Subway I always have better options for consuming video. Audio, personally I'm not a fan of ITunes, much prefer Google Play Music. But audio is audio. Who cares what it plays off of.

I don't really understand your complaints, OP. If moving from boxed-in to freedom stresses you out, you should probably just go outside more often and not worry so much about your phone regardless of what it is.

What are you talking about out? I play games on the phone, mobile gaming is an exploding market. better question is, who needs root file level access to their files? far less people than those who game.
 
You're not airing criticisms against Android. You're airing grievances against your own inability to choose or find proper apps.

How in the world is a clock widget font Android's fault? It sounds like you're using Samsung's stock widget. That's on Samsung and Touchwiz, not Android. Android's a far more complicated beast than that.

If Android doesn't suit you, nobody will dislike you. But they most certainly will when you conflate issues and pile them on the OS where they don't belong.

And for someone who claims to getting OCD and anxious for how their homescreen looks, well, it looks like that hasn't spread to your text editing. That paragraph is a tough read. Being a wall of text and all that.

Root level file access is not the same as just having file access. You need to inform yourself a lot more before you try getting defensive.

I feel yah. Its why I didn't even consider the S6 even though it is the best phone of the year so far. I will never consider another Samsung phone, I am that sick of Touchwiz. Even though for me the holdup is the slow updates more than the GUI, but I don't like the GUI.

Problem is Samsung has the best hardware/camera, so you throw the baby out with the bath water. Like if I wanted a phablet, I would buy a Nexus 6 even though the Note 4 has a better camera, screen, battery life and more expandible options. That is a lot to give up to avoid Touchwiz.

Hey if you buy your phone for the purpose of playing games, then why are you complaining about an Android phone? Far more power than an iPhone, on top of numerous other reasons that should be pretty obvious why an Android device is vastly superior to an i-device for gaming.

As I said, I don't see the point in buying a phone for the purpose of playing games on it. Games are at best a nice additional feature for me. I have a computer and a tv if I want to play games. (and I do. a LOT)

I know, it sucks - just feels like untapped potential. I miss webos, honestly! Anyways, are there any slick launchers out there that are polished and hide some of touchwizes flaws?
 
It's amazing how being pigeonholed by Apple for so long and now having the ability to do anything as you pleases would be consider "weird."

We Really Really REALLY need an Nvidia shield phone... I game on my shield tablet daily and it's a very enjoyable experience... It seems like they could cut the power of the x1 by 25%, put it in a phone, and have the most powerful phone on the market for the foreseeable future...
 
I've heard the Wolfson DAC Samsung uses is no slouch, either.

Audio is bigger topic than what hardware the phone packs, anyway. Even audiophile systems sound like butt through lousy buds.

So what's the best, high-res, slick ui having audio player going right now? also, is the process of getting music over (flac, I'm assuming) by usb only? I haven't done that in years, in fact I don't get a drive letter when I charge off of my mac... hmm, new things to learn! i think that's the problem. i get it, customization is nice. but it's a lot to learn, and differs by manufacturer and even model, so finding information is much more difficult over iphones.

is there a place for high end, 3d games? like infinity blade? i know nvidia has tegrazone, but that wouldn't work on an s6 right?

Nvidia doesn't have a LTE radio. They tried and failed. No Nvidia phones are coming.
 
one weird thing about android is that i've been swyping for years while iOS users looked at it with incredulity like i was a wizard. i'll take that kind of weird, love that way of typing.

At the same time though amazing headphones sound like butt through lousy systems. In fact, My buddy got hd 598's which are pretty decent, but they sounded significantly worse in his computer than my beater hd 439's in mine, because I have a decent sound card and he just used integrated. One of my few complaints with the lg g2 is the terrible audio quality, but what are you gunna do?
