Weird Temp. Problem

I have a P4 2.4 ghz system (not overclocked), and have a weird problem. My idle temps were 25/35, with one exhaust fan. I decided to add an intake fan to try and bring things down a couple of degrees. The problem is that my lame case doesn't have fan mount on the front; it has one on the bottom. So I put the fan on the bottom and made some two inch risers to give it some intake room. Now my idle temps are 27/37. It seems to peak a lower (ut2k3 used to peak the cpu at about 49, now about 45), but it doesn't seem right that the idle temps should go up. Any ideas?

System
Asus P4PE
P4 2.4
Maxtor 80 GB HD w/ 8 MB cache
512 MB Crucial PC2100 RAM
BFG ti4200 w/ 128 MB RAM

Yeah, you are crazy for adding more fans to cool something already at a low temp. Other than that, where did you put the two inch risers? On the bottom of the case, or between the case and the fan?

So, is your additional case fan (the one on the bottom) drawing it's power from the motherboard or from the power supply?

I've got the risers under the case between the case and the shelf. and the fan is taking power from the MB - is that the wrong way to do it? I thought that would be the only way mother board monitor would read it. . .

What is the capacity of the two different fans? If you don't match the intake fan with the exhaust fan air can actually become "hogged" inside the case since the fans will work against eachother. Besides, with those temps I doubt you need the intake fan. If you would want extra cooling either have two identical fans or mount the other fan to exhaust air next to the other fan. The second solution is the one I prefer since it draws air through the case quite efficiently.

Good luck

Well, you could get an adapter to plug the power into the power supply and an rpm lead in to the motherboard...
Ususally it's not a problem drawing power from a motherboard, but it may be producing that much more heat to rais your case temps slightly at idle. That's the only thing of which I can think.

Thanks for the help guys. Both fans are Vantec Stealths, but the intake has a filter on it, so maybe they aren't balancing well. I only added the intake because I was worried my vid card would get too hot, and I don't know how to monitor its temps. Oh well. . . I think I'll scrap the intake. Thanks again.

It could simply be a flucuation in room temp, maybe was a bit cooler before. Was it consistantly that way before and consistanly higher after or simply the product of random observation?
