aight. there are vast reasons that this might be happening. one of the most common might be that your bios settings are messed up. try getting into your bios and choosing "load default bios settings". if that doesnt work then i'd suggest you take out your pci/agp cards and then putting them back in one by one. if that doesn't work or help, then there might be a slight chance your cpu is overheating. if you can't solve the problem, take your system back ;)

Is this a newly built system? Is the hard drive rated at ATA33 or ATA66/100? Has the machine ever booted properly before?

When you said "nothing works", do you mean that nothing works when you try the hardware in the other machine, or that nothing you have tried has worked?

it might be a little to early to start striping the unit down. remove all Peripherals boot into bios and set defaults then try to boot, if that does not help boot into safe mode and look for ghost drivers and irq conflicts. if you can get to the dos prompt you may try a scan reg restore. i understand that you may not be able to do the above just a thought. but if you can not do the above and or boot to a floopy it could be processor, or ram, and the list then start going on and you may need to strip the unit back down, although i could be missing alot, but good luck
ps it could even be something like having the wrong ATA33 or ATA66/100 CABLE I thing they are different for the two.

The reason I was asking about ATA33 or ATA66/100 is that the ABIT bh6 is based on the Intel 440BX chipset. The 440BX chipset does not support ATA66/100 drives (as I found out recently with an ASUS P2B motherboard that wouldn't boot up fully with an ATA66/100 hard drive attached). That's why it would be helpful to know if your system ever booted before with this same setup.

Note that, if this is your problem, a BIOS update might enable the computer to work with the drive. Of course, if you have an ATA33 hard drive, or if your system was working properly before, you can disregard the post.

That is a BIOS hang. Use the jumper on the mainboard to reset the CMOS, worth a try.

I have used this system for about 2 years. About 6 months ago i got a western digital 20 gig ata 66 hd. I use a promise card for the hd. I have stipped the unit down to a video card and a floppy to see if i could boot to a system disk. Still cant get past verifying dmi pool..... I have also used two different CPUs and two different sets of ram all of which work fine in another motherboard
I have tried to reset the bios thru the jumper for clear cmos, load bios defaults, load setup defaults, disable all ext cache. If anyone has any suggestions i would welcome them.
Thanks

Try another floppy cable, as strange as that may sound that fixed their dmi verification hang even though a bios setting is the cause many times.
Check your Integrated Periperals menu look for udma settings and uncheck to see if you get past the dmi hang.
