weird startup problem in Win XP Pro

Hello all,

I just reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled Win XP Pro.

I put in all my software and everything runs great.

however, whenever I start up a folder pops up. it's path is:

yadda yadda\Start Menu\Startup\dll\

in my startup folder in my start menu is a folder called "dll".

I delete that folder and restart and the "dll" folder comes back again

What's up with that?

start/run type msconfig in the box hit the enter key, click the startup tab see if its listed there try unchecking the box for the program.

Also,
Start/Run and type regedit in the box and click OK.
Go to HKey_local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion and click on the RUN, RunOnce, RunOnceEx and RunServices & see if the proggie is listed in any of these keys and delete it.

That should kill it for good.

Couldn't GuybrushThreepwood just save a "System Restore Point" under Control Panel/Performance and Maintenance? Doesn't that also save the Registry or am I not understanding the System Resore function?

Yes, System Restore does save the Registry settings also.
