weird sound problems?

I get "hangs" (lasting maybe half a second) every so often, maybe 2-3 times a song... it's really, really annoying.

so anyway, I tried a new soundcard. that stopped it. recently I reordered all the PCI cards, and all the sudden I'm getting it again (despite this being the "working" sound card). what's causing this? how do I fix it?

Sounds like a latency issue. You can play with it in BIOS, but for better control download PowerStrip to directly edit PCI latency. The second time I've given this advice today. Check this out:

thanks, I think, but um, that program is all about the graphics card, it looks like... and the link was about video playback.

this is just the audio. :\

probably an IRQ conflict. check your mobo's IRQ assignments and place your sound card in a slot which does not share an IRQ, or just leave the other shared slots open.
