Weird sleeping habits

So I work night shifts (10pm to 7am), most days I try to get about 6-8 hours of sleep. I come home, stay up until about noon, then sleep until 8 or so. Some days I pass out earlier, sleep for like 10 hours. For the most part I'm almost always tired at work, and it takes me like half an hour to get into it and shrug off the sluggish feeling.

Yesterday I got like 3 hours of sleep, woke up tired, but by the time I got to work I was fine, and didn't feel sluggish at all. Hell, I'm still kind of wired right now, and it's been about 12 hours since I woke up, so about 3 hours of sleep in the past 36 hours.

Anyone else find that sometimes less sleep makes you feel better than more sleep?

For a while, yes. Less sleep makes it much easier for me to get up in the mornings for some reason. But then later in the day I get really tired.

This happens to me. Then the rest of the day I'm so tired and then when it's actually time to go to bed I'm not tired.

that is because your body is being so overworked, that it is just going crazy. try getting 3 hrs of sleep for a few weeks in a row. I dont think you could last very long. I read about this in some magazine. it said that getting less than 6 hours of sleep for a 2 weeks was the same as going 2 full days without any sleep. they did some sort of study, and had people take tests and see how good they did compared to normal sleep. the difference was, that the people who had gradual sleep loss, did not notice how low their brain function was, and the people that hadnt slept for 2 days did. interesting.
