Hello all,

Posted this in the Video forum but didn't get much help... anyone got any ideas?

Got one that I can't figure out. I have a brand new MSI K7T Pro2A with an Athlon 650, and I have problems with random reboots while watching videos... MPEG, ASF, RealMedia, AVI, you name it. I've tried both MediaPlayer 6.4 and a different video player (Global DivX, plays everything except RealMedia) to no avail. At a random point while watching a movie, the system will reboot. This is the ONLY thing that causes the machine to do this... playing games, or general desktop stuff is fine.

Any ideas? System specs are below

MSI K7T Pro2A
256MB Hyundai PC133 (had 384, took one stick out)
75GB IBM 75GXP
Matrox Marvel G400 (using latest beta drivers, they worked great with my old GA7IX board)
Philips Acoustic Edge
3Com 905B NIC

Using latest VIA 4in1 drivers, everything but the VIA IDE drivers installed. System runs 100F at idle, 107F at full load...

Thanks,

Dave

hmm, someone is having the same problems as you, or similar to them over here. i wonder if it has to do with the fact that you both have similar mainboards. maybe not. try the suggestions over there, disabling directdraw, slowing down hardware acceleration, etc... as far as i can tell, it has to be related to video overlay issues.

My PS is an Enermax 351VE (330W)... I've tried disabling the video acceleration in Windows, that didn't work, and made the display look worse... I'll try the DirectDraw stuff.

Using w2k by chance... in my experience, w2k + video overlay + certain video cards = crash.

My problem was with a TV tuner. Since then, I switched to 98SE and sold the TV tuner.

jeremy806: Nope, it's running 98SE... I can't run Win2k because of driver issues with my G400 Marvel (stupid beta Matrox drivers...). Looks like I'll be swapping the board with an A7V133, so I'll see if that makes a difference. There's no reason at all why I shouldn't be able to reliably run Media Player or any other media app... I'm beginning to suspect this MSI board, after hearing all the horror stories...

this topic has been discussed many times, and the problem has been isolated to the pro2a. You need to download the IDE BUSMASTER.
