The sound of a halyard banging on the mast of a sailboat, the sound of water lapping up against the hull, the sound of waves crashing on the beach...these are a few of my favorite things.

the wind blowing through the trees in the winter. Not a howl, but a good fast wind. I miss that sound now that I live in a more urban area than before.

gentle rain falling is also nice.

and the sounds of the toads in the nearby pond doing their calling in the spring.

My phone ringing, since it's a rare random occasion that I receive any calls. Preferably an interviewer. But more times than not it's that stupid fucking automated collections message. Normally at 7am or 11pm on Sundays. Fuck. You.

The light crackle after you place the needle on a record and before the music starts.

Rain, waves on a shoreline, scuba bubbles while diving, and the sounds of the ocean creatures while diving. (They are quite loud in rocky areas, what with all the crabs and urchins scratching around.)

Or at the end when the needle has ridden past the lead out groove and circles the the record over and over again. Waking up after falling asleep with an LP playing. (surely beats waking up to a loud tone when the telly station goes off the air!)

Ooh, a rather timely one here - slowly biting into a dry Lucky Charms marshmallow. It's like eating Styrofoam, if it was made out of puffed-up sugar. :D

Charging up of some strobe guns is neat.
Ironically the better (pro) ones are silent.

The soft sound of my kid's breath as they sleep.

Also a certain humming sound.

The sound your finger makes when you rub a book/magazine page in between your fingers before turning it.

...yeah :p

I actually like the sound of really thin pages, like the ones a bible is made out of...who knows :p

Heavy rain

Trees swishing

Lightning

The beeping of a pedestrian light

The sound it makes when you saw your nails on both hands against each other (I have actually tried to come up with a better way to describe this and am at a complete brain block)

A baby cooing.

Sound of a can opening, or bottle popping

I think you mean thunder. Unless you're discussing the sound before a close proximity follower stroke. The build up of steady strain coronal streamers and crackling. Most people don't recall hearing it as the follower stroke kills them in less than 1/40,000th of a second. ;)

Add the crackling of a fire to the list. Especially outdoors in the evening with the sound of crickets and frogs in the distance. :awe:

The sound of an m1 garand ejecting the clip.

Elk bugling

The sound of fishing line being pulled off of a fishing reel when you have a big one hooked.
