Targeting radars operate in a very high frequency range, it's pretty easy to detect when somebody is looking at you with a targeting radar.

I don't believe it's possible to tell when the guy looking at you gets a firing solution, though, so you wouldn't be able to know the difference between someone trying to get a lock and somebody having a lock.

Also, radar guided missiles are typically for medium-long range kills. The close in stuff (as seen in top gun) tend to be heatseekers, and you wouldn't know if a heatseeker was locked on you until it hit - they are strictly passive, they don't emit any signals for the target to detect.

There is also no "lock" when using guns. The F-14 has a fixed canon, the computer will give you lots of help hitting your target in the form of a very advanced crosshairs display, and it will tell you where to shoot in order to hit your target, but it's up to you to get the gun facing in that direction and pull the trigger.
