Weird Problem

Recently one of my computers has been acting strangely. At first it would not load sounds properly or at all when I played BF2, so when I played I would have say the sound of shells hitting the ground but no sound of my gun firing. This was ok I thought it was just a problem with BF2, however it progressed. Next time I started up the game it started playing completely random sounds. I would hear crackling, screeches, tapping, static etc. All at the same time. Obviously this is not part of the game, and something is wrong. I am wondering if it's a problem with my CPU (could be dying because my graphics card just died as well) because I was getting some frame rate drops as well. Also I had checked the temperature of my CPU and it was pretty high at some points, it was idling at about 38c and would go to somewhere in the upper forties under load. I took the HSF out and cleaned some dust and crap out and that dropped my temps to about 34c idle and 38c load. I can't test the game out anymore because my GPU just died today, but I would like to know what the problem is.

My specs are:
AMD Athlon 64 3200+
1 gig ram
9800pro (it died today)
ASUS K8V SE deluxe

Thanks in advance. :)

Well if you GPU died that might have been the problem. If not I would say to throw in a different sound card and see how that goes.

Do you have a sound card on MBO that are you using or sound card on PCI? Maybe it was just a graphic card but why not suspect on MBO or sound card on it?!

My soundcard is PCI, but I tested it in another system and it works perfectly. So it's definitely not my soundcard thats causing the problem.

But why would the graphics card cause my sound to go insane? I really doubt that's the problem. I was just wondering if anyone here had experienced the same thing before. I think the CPU is dead but I am upgrading my comp anyhow.

I told you it can be a sound card or if you know the sound card isn't the problem I suspect on MBO...i didn't have a similar problem but it can be MBO...

Sorry about grammar if it's bad...

Err, you don't think it's peculiar that your sound started to go funky immediately before your GPU died? Think maybe there's some sort of correlation?
