Ok i have a 5200 in my pc now and i slapped in a 9600pro... well after i installed the drivers the screen went black and my monitor lost the signal... When i restart the problem takes a couple minutes to come back. It just spontanously happens when i click something.

And when i restarts it does a checkdisk. I also got a vpu error.... i tried a couple different drivers and got the same problem..

I put my 5200 back in and the problem went away.

It's possible. I do remember VPU Recover being really screwy sometimes (I used to have a 9700 Pro), you might try disabling that.

If a clean install is an option, you may want to try that. Nothing like a fresh start to eliminate problems.

Fresh installs are always nice, but its the worst way otu of a solution since you never learn what the problem was. I must admit tho its usually the more appealing way and somtimes needed. On the ATI site under teh tech support i tihnk i remeber reading somthing about the screen going blank when starting windows you may want to go to it and check it out.
