whenever im playing games, they will lag REAL bad for a few seconds and stutter, then it plays fine again for a couple minutes, then it does it again. first i thought it was my internet connection, then i played some Starcraft on LAN yesterday and it did it there too. what could be causing this occasional lag and stuttering? im sure my rig can handle starcraft for christ sake.

I had a "stutter" problem a long time back but it was constant and at regular intervals. Like every 5 seconds I'd get a brief "lag". If I remember correctly it had to do with my sound drivers. I'm sure it was some flavor of Soundblaster.

no, and i dont plan on it. there is no way to fix this besides re-installing windows?

for the guy that posted first---i recently re-installed my motherboard drivers(audio included) and now my volume icon in my tray is effed up. could this also be causing my games to stutter at regular intervals?

Try disabling vsync. You have a 4200 so that may not help but it did WONDERS with my 9800.

hm, since starcraft is only a 2d game.. maybe there is some sort of service or app set to high priority running on your PC? check the CPU utilization in task manager (check the time column if you have to) to see if you can spot anything using CPU time. that may cause such a problem.

cause it ain't your video card or anything that's fo sho..... (at least i'd think it wouldn't be)
