just tonight the internet connection on all 3 of our computers on this network have been screwy...we all connect to my wireless linksys router, and usually everything works fine. now the internet goes in and out on all computers, randomly. sometimes i can go on AIM on this computer, but firefox won't work, weird problems like that. AIM was working on my brother's computer but not IE, and my mom can't connect on AOL at all on her laptop. now whenever i scroll on webpages its super laggy, as if i don't have video card drivers installed. i got the scrolling problem last week and updated my drivers, so i know it isn't that. anyone have an idea what it could be? thanks.

A problem with the provider perhaps? If not, I'd take a good look at the modem/router and reset them to default if needed. Check for the latest firmware for the router too.

it could be a problem with comcast, they're usually not helpful at all and i'm pretty sure they're closed as well so i don't think calling them would work. i'll go try reset/restarting the modem and router both. just to give you an example, i was trying to get to the linksys page through google to look for updated firmware, and google won't work, along with about 1/2 the other sites i visit, but anandtech does. weeeeird.

Sounds like traffic isn't getting through on certain ports - did you try disabling firewalls?

There is a nationwide problem with Comcast's DNS Servers! You can find a lot of info on DSLreports forums. You need to change your DNS server by going to network places, then view network connections, right click on the connection and click properties, under the general tab click Internet Protocal (TCP/IP) and click properties. I changed mine to 4.2.2.1 or 4.2.2.2 and it works perfect now. Hope that helps!

Well, those changes did not help me and neither did tech support at Comcast, but I did get credit for the day. w00t... weeeee... I hate it when the internet goes down. :(
