Weird problem with monitor

So, when plugged in, the monitor shows video for 2 seconds and then goes black. The light is still blue so I know it is still receiving signal. It does the same thing with two different video cards.

Any ideas?

Sounds like the monitor has either a defective inverter or defective backlight. Have you tested it on another computer?

Shine a flashlight at the screen when it is blacked out. If you see a faint image it is the backlight, probably a bad solder joint on the PCB.

We have a few old monitors at work that still have external Power supplies. We had a similar problem..windows would appear to boot on screen and then the screen went black. Originally it was suspected that the computer was dying but it turned out to be the monitor power supply was not giving it enough juice. The light on them says green but swapping it out the monitor worked fine.

Obviously though if you have a newer one where the PS is part of the monitor there isn't much you can do.
