Weird problem with Mail

Once in a while, and randomly, when i try to send a message using my own outgoing server, i get a message that the server is unavailable and that I could try to use 'jks.llsj.com' instead. (this is what Mail is offering since it cant send through the proper server, not the email account saying to use that instead)

No problems on the server end, as I can send mail just fine with my other computer.

Whats strange is that under accounts, i only see only outgoing account, no reference to the jks.llsj.com its saying as an alternate outgoing server.

Any ideas?

It will do this randomly for 10 minutes, then suddenly start working fine again.

are you sure there isn't an alternate smtp server setup? mine will do that if it can't send out thru my default server, it will suggest one of the alternate ones i have set up.

nope, only one outgoing server in the whole program, the correct one.

thats whats weird, its suggesting this non-existent alternate server.

here's something you can try.

Using the help files, back up what you need to back up.

Then, grab AppZapper to uninstall Mail.

Download Pacifist, and insert the Tiger DVD that came with your Mac. Reinstall Mail using Pacifist, and then restore some if not all of the library files. That will restore your messages, and your settings.

well i use IMAP, so no need to backup really... its all on the server

I'll try that out tonight, thanks

You may also want to try removing the Mail preference file(s) from the preferences folder(s) and see if the problem persists before removing Mail in its entirety.

When this happens to us at work (it happens to EVERYONE in the room) it's usually been diagnosed as being entirely on the mail server's end and seems to have the exact symptoms your's does.

Edit: except the "random" mailservers were ones that were seemingly deleted. Try Tegeril's advice.

yeah i was gonna ask that next injury, if that was something on the mail server that was left over from setting it up or whatever. it's gotta be coming from somewhere.
