weird problem with cursor backing up

this has happend to me about 5 times in the last few weeks after my computer has been on for some time...

all of a sudden when I click on a desktop icon and lift my hand off the mouse, all of the icons will start being highlighted, etc. as if i am touching them all very fast. Then, when I attempt to type something in my browser, or word, it will keep backspacing so i cannot successfuly type anything without it looking totally messed up. the icon things also happends when i atttempt to go to the control panel, or open any application for that matter.


this is very strange, and i would like to get this to stop before it happends again, i have to restart when it happends which gets pretty annoying.
