For a while now I have had this problem with my mouse and my PC, and this problem has gotten perpetually worst. I am using an HP mouse, one of those Logitech OEM first wheel mouse, on a WIN2K platform. The problem is that the mouse freezes after boot at which time I have to reboot. Before, the mouse used to freeze after Windows running for a while. So I thought it may be driver conflicts so I downloaded the most updated Logitech Mouseware hoping this would solve the problem but that hasnt been the case. Now it freezes within like 2 minutes of Windows start. I have changes OS to WINME but that hasnt helped so I went back to WIN2K. I am stumped. I am running an OC'd Cell 366 at 550. I have dropped the clock speed but that doesnt seem to help either. I was thinking it may be a ps2 port problem on the mobo. Has anyone ever encountered such a problem? Please help. I am clueless on the matter. Don't even know how to trouble shoot. Please help...
Thanks

Since it doesn't happen in WinMe that would eliminate a port or hardware issue. Do you use any of the fuctionality/programability of the mouseware software? If not I would remove it from your Win2K environment. The scroll wheel should still work fine. I currently use the Logitech MouseMan Wheel Optical. I do not use the Mouseware software and the mouse works fine. The only thing I can't use is the programable thumb button (which I really don't care about anyway)

Sorry for the confusion. The mouse did not work properly on ME either. This problem was evident even before installing Mouseware. It just has gotten worse recently. Could it be a bad mouse? If so why would it slowly get worse? Shouldnt it have died alltogether?

IS your machine an actual HP??? my aunt has like 10 HP machines from various generations and they all have th same problem,... the mouse drivers lag like a mutha and take forever to load, so much so that her HP PAvillion p3800 with 256 ram will start up for like 10 minutes and her mouse is completely unfunctional (just has a cursor you can't move) till the whole thing is booted... weird problem, i think it's the HP software lagging... if you know bout computers, i sugest you format the thing and install without the HP restore disk,... assuming of course your using an HP, if not...

then i'm not sure what will help since you already DLed the newest logitech mouseware... as for the ps2 port, i think thats rare unless you are OCing your mouse... in which case mouse-malfunction is the most likely culprit

My freakin abit board has stating to have these issues has well. Except my keyboard locks up, has well has my PS/2 mouse. Though the USB mouse works fine. I think it might be a failing ps/2 port for you. Or something else, but I do not what that something else is..

No it isn't an HP machine. I built it myself. Just had a HP mouse laying around so I thought to use it since it looked just like a Logitech. THe specs for the machine are below. Maybe that will help. Thanks for the posts and keep posting. Could it be a HD problem or a Power Supply problem? HD is new (4 months old).
