Weird Power Problem

Well I was installing a friends CD burner yesterday, and I had to jet in a hurry, so I hooked it up quick, was sure that I did everything right and left. Well where I worked (in his room) was carpeted, however, I did ground myself to the power box. The next day my pal calls me and says his PC wont even turn on, so I get over there, check out everything. Absolutely everything is in perfect place, all power cables are into the devices securely, the motherboard is getting the power. But heres the thing, I hit the switch, absoltuely nothing, no fan goes, no lights, nada. I didn't even mess with the jumpers for the power switch on the mobo. So that can't be the problem. Could this be a bad power supply? Maybe the extra CD burner added to many volts? Or Perhaps my friend static shocked his computer? Anything I can check? please reply ASAP
 
Have you tried unplugging the cdrw and boot up the machine again? If still no go, try to check on the line from the switch to the mobo. Maybe when you install the cdrw, you accidentally loosen up a line. If that's not the case... maybe you have to start praying and try another PS or so...
 

Did you chech your friend surge protetion bar fuse???

If the light is one it mean the the system is getting power.

Does the monitor get power???

If monitor is getting power from the back of the power supply on the puter, then your mobo may not getting power (check power connections on mobo).

And, make sure the voltage setting on the back of your power supply is set at 120v not 240v.

 
i've had this happen to me a couple of times, my mobo is finicky about power for some reason. check to see if the power switch is hooked up to the motherboard properly, if it is, unplug the power cable and wait for about 10 secodns. reconnect it. the 3 keyboard lights should go on for a brief moment. also, something as simple as a dead cmos battery can have this effect as well, so you might want to check that. some mobos have options for using hotkeys on the keyboard to start up, if this is the case, you might want to clear the cmos. hope this helps.
