Weird pci-express installation problem...

I have a CoolerMaster Centurion 5 case and a Chaintech VNF4 Ultra motherboard along with an MSI X800 pcix video card. The problem I am having is that the video card wont properly slide into its slot. The side with the clip (those unfamiliar with pcix, its a clip like on the edges of the ram slot) snaps in but the side that connects to the I/O bay of the case does not match up. The video card lays in the slot tilted towards the clip and away from the I/O panel. As a result it is impossible to screw or clap the card in place on the case and the card never makes a connection to the MB. End result I have no video. Is this a problem with the video card or the case? Has anyone ever heard of this happening? Did I screw something up?
Thanks for any help.

PCI-X != PCIe

A pic would do wonders for us, because you can visualize your description seven different ways.

OK here is a link to an image that shows the situation in more detail. The clamp grabs the right side of the card before the left side and fully slide in the slot. But the bigger problem seems to be that the metal area on the card that goes into the case I/O panel isnt tall enough to allow the card to fully slide in. You can see what I mean by looking at the diagram.

Is this a new build, or have you had a video card in there before?

This is a new build, ive never installed the video card in any previous systems. Also the pci sound card seems to fit in just fine.

Well if it's exactly like the image you're proposing, my best guess is that you're missing some studs/standoffs on the motherboard, and it's sitting too low. Do the ATX I/O ports line up properly with the I/O shield?

Yes, everything else lines up correctly. The motherboard I/O and the regular pci soundcard. I installed all the spacers under the motherboard as well. Could this be a card defect? Im trying to figure out who to call to get this solved.

I really doubt it's a card defect, something like that just doesn't happen.

Yea, that doesnt seem likely. Maybe if I look at it tomorrow with fresh eyes. Hopefully its a stupid mistake on my part.

Do you happen to have this card? I had that one and recently sold it to another member here.

It seemed to me that the 90 degree bend on the pci-e bracket was in the wrong spot. So I straightened out the bracket as best I could and it slipped right into place. The guy who bought it from me agreed, and I also saw another post recently from a guy who was having the same problem (with an MSI x800)...found his thread here

Yes, it's a strange issue, one that I haven't encountered before. I had a 6800gt prior to that card (same mobo and case) and it fit fine. I have a 7800gt now - no problems. I'm also using two pci cards and they both fit fine too.

I thought I was losing my mind when I couldn't get the x800 to fit

YES! that is the exact problem I am having. That thread pretty much sums it up completly. Although your link to the photo doesnt work it sounds like its the same card. It sounds like you just got rid of the card all together, since I bought it like 5 days ago I might do the same and get the sapphire model.
