Weird OCR problem

I was scanning some lyrics from an old cassette liner. When I OCRed it not all of the lines were converted to text. Instead, several of them were missed completely, not even gibberish was created. I could clearly see them on the preview screen, but not text was created.

I tried it with both Presto! and Mustek's OCR program. Same results on the same lines.

Anyone know what could cause that?

maybe you need to scan at a higher res?

I scanned at 300 dpi, and the lines that were converted were near perfect, so I don't think that was the problem. It just seemed to be randomly skipping whole lines.

is there any kind of color transition behind the text? Or a darker background perhaps?
