I've seen that but thought the odd placement of "AdChoices ->" was just an ad layout/format error. Dunno what it is.

If only there were a way for you to run it up the flagpole to the people in charge of ad sales and say "hey... this is annoying... you're pissing off our viewers... and you wonder why they all run adblock"

if only...

:hmm:

Funny you should say that. This is exactly why I switched from IE to Firefox (then to Chrome) and use Adblock Plus while browsing. I realize it cuts into the forum revenues, but the ads have gotten too annoying. Some are "mouse-over" ads that blow up to nearly full screen...f*ck that.
The "non-descript" banners weren't so bad...but the ad department has let the ad servers get out of control. Look back through the threads for the past year...there are dozens or more...all bitching about the same thing...yet nothing gets fixed.

Every ad we've reported this year has been fixed. As for the ad in question, I'm still trying to track it down.

I haven't been able to bring up that specific Akamai ad, no doubt based on the fact that it's behavioral advertising and I don't match the behavior.:p

In any case it looks like allisolm is right: it's a formatting error. That bar is supposed to appear at the top of every ad generated from a behavioral advertising system based on the online ad industry's self-regulation policies. So it's not a weird new ad in and of itself, it's just that the label isn't in the right place.

Anyhow it appears to be restricted to Akamai (Google-served ads aren't doing it), and since it's a formatting error it's probably browser-specific in conjunction with the forums. What browser are you on, guyver?

Isn't that exactly what we're doing right now?

Ahh Chrome; there always has to be a screwball in the audience.:p

Anyhow I'm sure the ad guys will remove it, but we have to be able to figure out which specific ad network is serving it up (since as far as I can tell, the forums don't directly serve up Akamai ads). Which means you'll probably have to grab the relevant debug/development tools for Chrome. I'm not sure what native capabilities it has.

Add IE7 to the screwball list.

I love that, because of my browsing habits, it gives me an ad for Kroger Pharmacy flu shots when I've never had a flu shot, never looked for one, and don't have a Kroger within 100+ miles of me. I did read the thread in OT about flu shots so, if it's going to target folks based on the threads they read here, some people are going to see some really weird ads.

:colbert:

well.. then i ain't doing your research for you.

that's why you guys pay an IT team.
Well that's unfortunate, but it's your call. But since we can't reproduce it, it also means we can't send it in to have it fixed.:\
