Ive run into a small problem transferring files from one PC to another (peer to peer network)

PC A:
dual boot: Win Me, ie6, Norton 2001, current updates/2k Adv Server sp2, ie6, Norton Corp Ed, current updates
800mhz, 256mb ram, Linksys 10/100 card

PC B:
dual boot: Win 98, ie6, Norton 2000, current updates/Win NT workstation, sp6a, ie6, Norton v5.02.06, current updates
233mhz, 128mb ram, 3com 3c905tx 10/100

Linksys 10/100 5 port switch
************

Everything is working fine until last Thursday, I was in 2k server and an email came in with the sircam virus, Norton Corp picked it up and quarantined it, I then deleted it and continued on, updated the virus sigs on Friday, then again every day after that to make sure. I did get another 2 emails with the Nimba virus but both were picked up by Norton

Now I download the norton virus update on PC A and when i try to move the virus update from PC A to PC B, I get a dialog box that says 10 sec to go (files only 2mb) then it disconnects saying the network resource isnt available anymore..but Im looking right at the folder of PC A on PC B, I tried with other files and it does the same thing, going PC B to PC A gives the same thing.

I tried (from PC B) to map the server folder (PC A) (\\server800\e$) and also tried it from start\run with the same result.

Im logged onto each PC with the same ID and PW, Ive run the virus scan and it has not found any virus', also ran the Nimba removal tool from Symantec just to verify no Nima's are on the PC, none found.
Ive booted in Win ME and tried to do the same thing, no luck, tried booting into win98, also no luck
I can see the PC's in Network Neighborhood, am sharing files on each PC, each PC is set to DHCP, also tried setting an IP, with no luck.

Ive run out of ideas other than rebuilding both PC's, anyone got an idea? THanks!!

oh, yeh, ping from each PC to the other PC is <10ms and the internet connection is 33.6 dial up modem till cable guy comes tomorrow
I did a network monitor capture on the 2k server and something is going out every second to IP 224.2.165.152 via UDP

yeh, Norton corp edition caught it in realtime scan, as it did with all the virus' it ever found, I also unplugged the switch for about 10 min and retried with different ports, no luck.
I grabbed a straight through cable just now from work, tonight Ill try direct PC A to PC B, bypassing the switch

Worse comes to worse, ill put another drive in the server PC and put 2k professional on it..Im not sure if this problem will affect the install of the cable net access tomorrow..and dont want to risk waiting any longer...its a pita to get the cable people to come out when its convenient for me:0)

It's really impossible for a virus to have fried your switch. The ONLY possible it could have affected it is if your switch has a web-based interface that it could have pounded on hard enough to cause problems. Since that's all in firmware, a simple reboot should fix it.

It's more likely that something corrupted the network drivers on your machines. Try to remove your NIC card drivers and re-install it to see if that helps.
